December 2011 - Special Announcement!
This month we'll have a special guest, Food and Shelter Specialist Ben Walmer, to share his experiences in the connection of food to architecture, and the future of how these systems interact in our society. Ben is a principal at LIMN Architects, chef, and frequent collaborator within the local and slow food movement in the region. Ben has significant experience with natural building, passive solar, and ecological design issues. Recently, he has completed a pumicecrete and adobe project in Taos, New Mexico. He has also designed with traditional local materials while on a project in Nigeria, constructed and lived in a tipi, and, as a teenager, lived for five years sans plumbing in a remote cabin built from natural materials. As a Food specialist, Ben runs an area supper club, has cooked along side an Iron Chef, and has even built a portable wood-fired pizza oven.
